Our Soaps
Most store-bought “soaps” are actually synthetic detergents, which can leave skin feeling dry, tight, or itchy.
At Maple Hills Soapworks, every bar is made from scratch using the traditional cold-process method. This process uses sodium hydroxide (lye) to transform fats and oils into true soap. Once the reaction is complete, no lye remains. What’s left is pure, gentle soap naturally enriched with its own glycerin.
We make each batch in small quantities so every step can be carefully monitored. After pouring, the bars cure for several weeks, depending on the recipe. This slow cure creates a harder, longer-lasting bar that feels exceptionally mild on the skin.
Ingredients
Our soaps are made with simple, high-quality ingredients sourced as close to home as possible.
All of our soaps (except Castile) use locally sourced, food-grade Canadian tallow as the main ingredient. We blend it with nourishing oils such as olive, coconut, and castor to create a balanced, creamy lather.
Additives
All of our bars are naturally coloured. we never use artificial dyes, micas, fragrances, or titanium dioxide.
Many recipes include raw Tussah silk fibers, kaolin clay, or fresh ingredients like milks and juices.
Our Castile soap is the exception: a pure 100% olive-oil bar with no added ingredients.
Scents
We offer a range of unscented soaps to showcase the natural richness of the oils themselves. These bars have a silky, luxurious feel, making them especially suitable for sensitive skin and facial use.
For scented varieties, we use only natural essential oils that meet IFRA safety standards.
Packaging
From start to finish, every bar is hand-cut, air-cured, and wrapped in eco-conscious cotton fibre packaging, even our shipments use plastic free naturally compostable components.
